  1. National Veterinary Associates has completed its previously announced acquisition of SAGE Veterinary Centers. SAGE will be part of the specialty and emergency care group NVA Compassion-First. SAGE was founded in 1992 and operates veterinary hospitals in the western United States. It joins NVA’s group of more than 100 specialty, emergency, and surgical hospitals. SAGE’s management, founding veterinarians and Chicago Pacific Funders have rolled over a portion of their investment proceeds into stock in NVA as part of the transaction.
  1. Zoetis has agreed to acquire Basepaws, a developer of animal genetic tests, analytics and early health risk assessments sold to pet owners. “The acquisition will advance Zoetis’ portfolio in the precision animal health space and will inform and shape its future pipeline of petcare innovations,” according to Zoetis’ announcement. Basepaws developed and markets a DNA test for cats as well as what the company calls the world’s first at-home oral health test for cats, with plans to expand into the dog market. The company also has a feline genomic and oral microbiome database that Zoetis says will help advance its own product development.
  1. Thirty veterinary management professionals recently earned the Veterinary Hospital Managers Association’s Certified Veterinary Practice Manager credential. The credential is voluntary, and applicants are required to meet practice management requirements and demonstrate that they’ve earned sufficient formal education and continuing education credits before they sit for the exam. The exam tests applicants on relevant knowledge in human resources, marketing, finance and other areas. More information on the credential and the latest group of practice managers to earn it is in the announcement from the VHMA.
