Animalytix and its partners were honored to recognize two not-for-profit organizations in the KC region with the 2017 Spirit of Service award, Heartland Therapeutic Riding and Lakemary Ranch.

The Spirit of Service Award recognizes not-for-profit organizations that work to improve the health and lives of both animals and people.

Heartland Therapeutic Riding

Mission

To improve the quality of life of those with disabilities and diverse needs through Equine-Assisted Activities. We are committed to changing lives, one ride at a time!

Culture

Heartland Therapeutic Riding has been in operation since 1978 making it the most established non-profit therapeutic riding center in the Kansas City area and one of the longest enduring programs in the U.S.

Program

Heartland provides equine-assisted activities and therapies. HTR offers adaptive riding lessons, interactive vaulting, horsemanship classes and occupational therapy through hippotherapy. These activities and therapies provide physical, cognitive, and emotional growth through the movement of and emotional bond created with the horse.

HTR is recognized as a Premier Accredited Center by the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH Intl). Our instructors are PATH Intl certified ensuring the highest quality services and safety standards.

Lakemary Ranch

Mission

Empowering children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to achieve their individual potential.

Culture

Since 1969, Lakemary has provided a place where children with intellectual/developmental disabilities learn and heal. Lakemary is one of a small handful of agencies nationwide which provides specialized schooling and a residential treatment facility for children (ages 6-21) dually-diagnosed with a developmental delay and a concurrent psychiatric disorder.

Program

Lakemary Center offers a wide range of child and adult services include psychiatric residential treatment, K-12 accredited school, targeted case management, outpatient therapy, specialized foster care, employment and volunteer opportunities, residential living assistance and business solutions. Each year, our work touches the lives of over 650 individuals and their families from all over the country. They are dedicated to providing hope, dignity, and a life full of meaning to those we serve.
