- Chewy reported net sales of $2.86 billion increased 2.6% year over year, gross margin of 29.5% increased 120 basis points year over year, and net income of $299.1 million. Chewy CEO Sumit Singh announced that the company’s 20 million active customers grew sequentially in the quarter and that net sales per active customer of $565 was a new record for the company.
- Patterson Companies reported first quarter reported net sales decreased 2.2% year over year to $1.54 billion, and internal sales decreased 2.8%. First quarter results fell short of expectations, primarily due to the impact of the Change Healthcare cybersecurity attack on the value-added services category in its dental segment, lower sales in the companion animal business and the timing of certain corporate expenses, said CEO and President Don Zurbay.
- SUPERZOO 2024, which was held in Las Vegas Aug. 14-16, drew more than 22,000 registrants, surpassing last year’s record-breaking numbers with a 2% increase in retailers, buyers and decision-makers, according to World Pet Association officials. The event attracted nearly 3,000 international participants and more than 1,100 exhibitors from 79 countries, with a significant presence from Mexico, Korea, Japan and Australia.
